FIRST Robotics Competition

This year, FACTS is teaming up with the Robotics Academy at Sunlake High School in Land O’ Lakes, FL to mentor and aid Seahawk Metal in the FIRST Robotics Competition. This team is composed of a group of students that are interested in robotics and getting real world experience in engineering. These students are entering into a rigorous competition with strict rules, very limited resources as well as a crunched time limit to source, build and program industrial-sized robots that will compete in a challenging field game against other high school teams.

This year’s 2017 FIRST Robotics Competition game is inspired by the era of steam technology. Check out the videos below to learn more about FIRST Robotics and this year’s competition!

UPDATE:

The Sunlake Robotics Team, Seahawk Metal, did fantastic in their rookie FIRST Robotics Competition!! On March 10, 2017, Seahawk Metal, along with some of our FACTS Team members, traveled to Orlando to compete against 62 other teams. Most teams were from high schools throughout Florida, but there were also several from out of state and even 4 international teams!

Our guys did really well and overcame some pretty tough challenges between matches to keep their robot performing well. They won 3 of their 8 matches and finished 43rd out of 63 teams. They ended up receiving the 2017 Highest Rookie Seed Award, Orlando Regional, which celebrates the highest-seeded rookie team at the conclusion of the qualification rounds.

FACTS is looking forward to mentoring the hardworking group of young individuals that make up the SunLake Robotics Team during next years event! If you want to keep up to date their team’s events and progress, follow them here!

Congratulations Seahawks!
